World Book Day Thursday March 7th

Although World Book Day was on Thursday March 7th, we really began the celebrations with a visit from the wonderful storyteller Niall Dé Burca on February  25th who enthralled both children and staff with the spoken word.  During the week, the children were busy with a range of activities- First classes had Peered reading sessions with our neighbouring 5th class children. Our P.A. ran a very successful Book Swap. Thank you also to the P.A. for managing the Book Fair that took place in our school library all week.  Teachers swapped classes and read stories, made book markers and made up their own stories. Room 11 Senior Infants went with their teacher Mrs. Phelan to Newbridge Town Library to listen to the author Audrey Moore. On World Book Day itself, both staff and children dressed up as their favourite book character. We had a special assembly in the hall that day where everybody showed off their costumes. Mrs. Harnett dressed as Mary Poppins got the atmosphere going when she sang a verse of ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’. Our SNAs dressed so creatively and told the children the story of ‘ The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. Our school choir finished off the day with some wonderful Irish and English songs.  Thank you to everyone for getting involved and for making it such a great day.
