Dear parents/ guardians,

 

In the current climate and with the risk of school closures ahead we have decided to compile a list of suggested work for the children to do at home.

Week 1:

English:

  • Practise writing sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
  • Page 20, 21 in blue phonics handwriting book.
  • Read with the children every night. Discuss the book title, characters, setting, plot etc. Ask the children to retell the story in their own words and ask specific questions about the story.
  • Pages 70, and 71 in word wise.
  • Continue with their sight words / word lists in their literacy folder.
  • Continue with spellings.
  • Revise all the phonics sounds that we have done so far (see list attached)
  • Revise all PAT endings (rhyming words) – see sheet attached.

Maths:

  • Continue with mental maths for the week.
  • We are doing tens and units so go over tens and units. Show the children using concrete materials such as buttons, beads, counters, pasta shapes, rice etc.
  • Complete tens and units sheet attached.

Religion / History:

  • Tell the children the story of Easter.
  • Pages 40 – 42 in grow in love book.

Music / Art:

  • Listen to the music Riverdance.
  • Draw a picture showing what you imagine while you listened to the music.

Gaeilge:

  • Practise using the vocabulary we have learned for Lá Fhéile Padraig.
  • Encourage the children to use our informal gaeilge (dún an doras – close the door, las na soilse – turn on the light etc.)

Week 2:

English

·         Take a spring walk (around the garden, to the park, on the Curragh) Look for any changes in the environment (new buds on trees, new flowers growing, new animals)

  • Draw a picture showing what you saw on your spring walk.
